Flavor Mixing, Quark Masses, Neutrino Masses and Neutrino Oscillations

We discuss first the flavor mixing of the quarks, using the texture zero mass matrices. Then we study a similar model for the mass matrices of the leptons. We are able to relate the mass eigenvalues of the charged leptons and of the neutrinos to the mixing angles and can predict the masses of the neutrinos. We find a normal hierarchy the masses are 0.004 eV, 0.01 eV and 0.05 eV. The atmospheric...

Neutrino Masses and Mixing∗

The investigation of neutrino properties is a very important problem of today’s neutrino physics. The key problem is the problem of neutrino masses. If neutrinos are massive, they can be mixed. If the total lepton number is conserved, massive neutrinos are Dirac particles. If the neutrino masses are generated by an interaction that does not conserve the total lepton number, neutrinos with defin...

Neutrino masses and mixing

Status of determination of the neutrino masses and mixing is formulated and possible uncertainties, especially due to presence of the sterile neutrinos, are discussed. The data hint an existence of special “neutrino” symmetries. If not accidental these symmetries have profound implications and can substantially change the unification program. The key issue on the way to underlying physics is re...

Absolute Neutrino Masses

where U is the mixing matrix (see Refs. [1–3]). Neutrino oscillations depend on the elements of the mixing matrix U , which determine the amplitude of the oscillations, and on the squared-mass differences ∆m2kj ≡ m 2 k − m 2 j , which determine the oscillation length. The results of solar neutrino experiments (Homestake [4], Kamiokande [5], SAGE [6], GALLEX [7], GNO [8], Super-Kamiokande [9] an...

Neutrino Masses and Mixings∗

The neutrino was proposed in 1930 by Pauli and solved the problem of the ”missing energy” in beta decay, n → p + e− + ν̄. It had to be a fermion with the same spin as the electron, but its mass should be extremely small, because the threshold being in essence the sum of proton and electron masses. The neutrino was only experimentally established in 1956 by Reines and Cowan via the inverse beta d...
